I also liked that there was little/no shimmer in the shade, I hate shimmery lips on me! Most people dislike twist-click applicators, but I really liked that as I can control how much to put on. I find brushes always give me too much product and I smear it all over the place lol.

What I didn't like: This certainly isn't a liquid lipstick. It is, at most, a very light lipgloss. There is v ery little pigmentation to the colour and the consistancy is that of a gloss.

Overall: I wouldn't re-buy, but it's a cute little non sticky lipgloss with a subtle hint of pink.

The bristles are SO firm, and the brush is really soft and full. Great for applying eyeshadow for a more dramatic look. It applies quite thickly but specifically where you want it, unlike some less firm brushes wheres you find it a little more difficult to get the shadow in a definitive place.. you can then easily take a less firm brush to blend your shadow in for a soft yet dramatic look.

What I liked: These eyeshadows are SO pigmented and easy to apply, they smooth on so easily and blend perfectly. Some seem a tad chalky at first, but with a little blending they're fine. The 2nd and 3rd lines of the pressed shadows I find perfect for daily wear for work, and the top line is a perfect smoky eye look. All the highlighters work well.

What I didn't like: The eyeliner and the cream shadows are a bit rubbish.

Overall: I love these eyeshadows, this is such a great buy, I will definitely buy this again. I can just chuck this in my bag for weekends away, nights out with work, stay overs at friends.. everyday I have used JUST this palette to create all my daily makeup looks. I don't use cream eyeshadows so maybe that's why I havn't found much use for them, and the eyeliner just isn't pigmented enough for me is all really.
Joannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08630935848051175665noreply@blogger.com19tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7644242360149495028.post-39562516381799687362010-07-10T06:48:00.000-07:002010-07-10T10:42:05.475-07:00My Topshop Confession
Please don't hate me.

I cannot stand Topshop.

There. I SAID IT. But please, do not lynch me with pitchforks and instruments of torture! Let me EXPLAIN!!

Okay, so the last time I bought something from Topshop, other than a few months ago I bought a couple of things from their makeup range was maybe... 2 years ago? Perhaps more? I think maybe it was their V jeans, I liked those.. lovely fit.

Okay, so here is why I am not a Topshop lover.

1. They are too "trendy".

Some of the stuff they have in there is just so unbelievably shit. I understand some p[oeple like their "out there" fashion, and I also understand that "catwalk fashion" is designed to exaggerate upcoming seasonal trends, but sometimes I find that a lot of Topshop pieces are just terribly unwearable.

Please remember this is just my opinion, but is this some sort of fashion piss take?! What ARE those? Okay, some things I see on the site or in the shop are not necessarily my style.. for example there are a lot of baggy items around which I think are overpriced in Topshop (but more on that later..) but a lot of these I just see as being rediculous. I find a lot of clothes in Topshop are aimed at the more obnoxious "fashion pretentious hipster" crowd. It's like LookBook. Some of the looks on there are great bhut so many to me just look terrible, overly trendy and pretentious.

I dress and wear clothes for them to look flattering on me and my body. I'm not an art display, I will not drape ,myself in ridiculous creations for the sake of following a trend. jeggings look shit on me, make my legs look like carrots, I ain't wearing the buggers. Super flare jeans look fab on me, I'm gunna bloody wear 'em! Don't get me wrong, some people look amazing in jeggings, so go ahead, wear them, but not me!

2. Overpriced.

So, when I do get down to finding something in Topshop that I think is pretty or nice or wearable. I then look at the price tag and recoil in horror. £40 for a Tshirt?? Are you having a laugh?? Example:

L-R gold button cardigan £32, Blue embellished cardi £38, Floral cardi £35, khaki jersey cardi £22, denim jacket £40

My denim jacket was £25 from New Look, and a jersey cardigan for £7 in Primark. That's a saving of £85 just on those items.

I just can't justify spending double the amount when i could get the same thing for cheaper. Sometimes cheaper clothing quality isn't the same, but other times it is, and you can use your own judgment to determine the quality of clothing by looking at them. I've bought things from Topshop before that have fallen to bits, and stuff from primark I've had for years. In fact, my first ever Primark purchase was a £4 embellished kaftan that I bought in 2004 is still a holiday and hot weather staple for me. My lovely £40 V jeans however from Topshop last a year, then the button fell off?

I HAVE MADE MY FIRST TOPSHOP PURCHASE IN OVER A YEAR!!

I saw a post on Georgie's blog about her recent visit to the Topshop sales, and them saw a post by Jess on her Topshop sale buys, and what they both bought really caught my eye, especially the skirts Georgie got and Jess's dress. I was bored on my lunch on Thursday, and decided to nip in seeing as it was quiet. I was definitely impressed,, and bought the following:

While I was there I noticed these cute body's which I think I may buy soon too:

I like plain, sleep packaging and this was nice. But it also had a nice feature with the clear plastic bottom. What I liked most about the packaging is the clear plasctic end is actually coloured with the lipstick itself, so you can straight away see the EXACT shade of your lipstick. There is NOTHING more annoying than seeing the little colour label for a lippie in the shop, opening up the tester, and finding it is totally different!!

Both shades are very creamy in formula, and I found them to be quite pigmented for a moisturising lipstick. They wern't super duper moisturising (I'm thinking 17 Mirror Shine here) but they certainly did a good job. Powder pink is my absolute favourite, it;s such a gorgeous pink and looks great.

What I didn't like: Nothing really!!

I have never really worn lipsticks before, but since starting my blog and reading others I've been inspired to try new things. I hate my lips feeling dry or sticky, so I generally void lipglosses and lipsticks and instead go for lipbalm. Sometimes I've worn lipbalms with a little lipcolour under or over it, or a little gloss on top of lipbalm to try and get a bit of colour.. but it never lasts long and I hate reapplying it.

I bought these two beecause of Boots' 3 for 2 offer across their cosmetics.

What I liked: I adore the colour. A deep rosy dusky pink that reminds me a bit of Eyeko's Tea Rose polish. It's a tad brighter than I would normally try, bear in mind I normally wear just lipbalm! But I love it. This isn;t as thick in consistency as most lipsticks, but not totally sheer either. It gives a great wash of colour and stays put without drying out my lips. I tend to reapply it 3-4 times a day.... bear in mind I eat like.. 5 times at work and drink water all day.

What I didn't like: I'm not massive on the packaging, bit tacky for me.. but I'm not a person who;s big on packaging, I focus on what's in it. It has a bit of an odd smell, but other than that I love this lipstick.

What I liked: This is a gorgeous natural nude pink, it's a little paler than it looks in the pictures and it's SO wearable. But what I loved the most... this is like a heavily pigmented lipbalm. it's not as pigmented as a lipstick, but it has all the shine and moisture of a good lipbalm, but with a strong colour and staying power. I absolutely LOVE this lipstick and have used a massive amount already! This gives a gorgeous flush of nude pink to my lips and is so shiny and moisturising.

Well, I was so impressed I went back today for 3 more!

I used Rose Libertine last night for this review.

RRP £3.49
What I liked: I didn't notice the brush feature with these polishes until I actually got it home and used it. The brush is a little shorter than average nail polish brushes, with finer bristles making a thicker brush. The end is tapered and rounded, making it an easier application for around your cuticles.
Let me first say.. I am TERRIBLE at applying nail polish.

Exhibit A
This brush is fantastic! It makes the application SO easy, I was so pleased. A little light pressure spreads the bristles the perfect amount to coat your nail really easily. I've been staring at my nails all day in disbelief! Rose Libertine is a gorgeous colour.. a creamy, opaque peachy pink. Two coats gave a perfect finish with no streaking or bubbling at all. Plus, it's cheap as chips!
First up is the Lip Polish in Melba. I normally go for pale nude pinks and berry shades, but as I have so many i thought why not try something new?
What I liked: I really did like the colour once I tried it. I wasn't sure if it would sui me but I really liked it. I also liked that the colour was strong without being overpowering like a lipstick. I prefer things subtle and this was great. It also had a nice, non sticky consistency, and the packaging is very cute.
What I disliked: There isn't a whole lot there for £6, 3.5g, and although the packing is very nice, it's quite chunky considering how little there is in there. The mirror is a very cute touch,, but so tiny I could barely see 1 tooth in it, nevermind my lips!
Would I buy this product again: Yeah I think so, although if I found something similar for a lower price or better value for money I'd choose that instead. I have Sleek's Pout Polishes which are £3.99 for 10g, thought ATM they only have 3 shades.. I definitely loved the colour though.
The directions said you just needed to add stock. A 600g pack was £1 so I thought I;d give it a go :)

I decided to add a bit of chicken and brown rice to mine so make it a bit more substantial, and some mushrooms.
I especially like the anorexics rehab they're currently following, and I also like Anna Ryder Richardson's bit where she looks at quick body fixes. A couple of you who read my blog know this already, but from the age of 18-21 I lost a total of 5 stone.. and I did it without follwing any "celebrity diets", body shreds, superdiets, diet pills, procedures.. just a lot of sweat, hard work, and a whole bloody lot of common sense.

I always enjoy the bit Anna does because I just think it's mental the extremes some people will go to. But one that always gripes me, and really annoyed me this week, is she always bitches about the gym and people who go to the gym. This week she met the singer Jamelia to talk about how she keeps her gorgeous legs in shape.

The first thing Jamelia said was that she doesn't go to the gym, and Anna responded with "OH I LOVE YOU! It's so good that someone with such a great body DOESN'T go to the gym, I hate the gym!" and was basically praising Jamelia for not being a gym goer, and expressing her dislike for people go use the gym.

Okay. I like the gym!! I know a lot of people don't.. but my gym is cheap, friendly, at the back of my house, and it;s a great place for me to run, stretch, bike, and workout without having to face the elements. I can just stick my Ipod on and have a pick of various different workouts depending on my mood and energy level. Now, I won't lie, I prefer going for long walks, running outside/down the woods, and I really enjoy bike riding.. basically anything outdoors.. but for convenience and for when the weather is shit, the gym to me is great. And I do enjoy it while I'm there, I like being active and I feel good afterwards.. The gym was part of the reason why I was able to lose the weight that I did. That and running, and completely overhauling the way I ate.

I also find people I work with and certain friends, that they seem to resent my enjoyment of the gym and can make me feel like a bit of a leper for going. At work if I say no to a biscuit when people bring them in, just because I don't particularly WANT one, everyone looks at me mortified, while they praise each other for their "naughtiness" and finish the lot. I will say now I don't like these girls who sit and pick at a bit of lettuce for their lunch, and I'm certainly not one, I adore my food, but I don't see why people seem to get so resentful over people who just like to eat well and look after themselves and they get made out to be "boring".

This is just a bit of a rant! What are your thoughts?Joannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08630935848051175665noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7644242360149495028.post-56467127746130258882010-04-11T03:39:00.000-07:002010-05-11T15:15:11.145-07:00Front Cover Eye Spy 09/10 ReviewFront Cover has been talked about a lot by makeup lovers the past couple of Winters.

I missed it all. Why? I've always been very girly and into my clothes and fashion and jewelry.. but makeup not so much. I wore it, but always the same look and never experimented with anything new. For New Year 2009, some friends and I went to Edinburgh for the Hogmany Street party, and my friend Caz had the Front Cover Rainbow Eyes set with her. I tried the Smokey Eye look, and LOVED it. I couldn't believe I'd managed to create a makeup look that actually LOOKED like it had been done by someone who knew what the Christ they were doing.

I bought Rainbow Eyes set immediately on Ebay, then saw the Eye Spy one and knew I NEEDED IT. It retailed for £30, I got it for around the same price on Ebay. I then bought the Eye Spy set which by then had been sold out in Boots for £20.

First of all, the palette itself

The front has serious looks created from the palette by pros, and inside opposite the palette, it has a step by step guide to creating 6 different looks using only the palette - Double Line, Vintage & Matte, Matte and Shimmer, Smokey Line, Natural & Understated, and Ultimate Smoulder. The guides are all really easy and I've played around with all 6.

The palette has 15 dome baked shimmer eyeshadows:
Vanilla Ice - A light shimmery white colour, perfect for highlighting.
Powder Puff - A pale shimmery peachy colour, again, great for highlighting,
Burnt Toast - A really rich burt brown, looks great on green and blue eyes, and a good colour for adding depth. I havn't really used this one yet, but I plan to. It looks good on tanner or darker skin too.
Amber Green - One of my favourties! A gorgeous khaki green and gold mix, such a unique colour.
Black Ink - BLACK! Lol what more to say! It has a slight shimmer, but instead of the usual black shimmery shadows having silver mixed in, it's more a metallic black.
Lime Sherbert - A lovely pale greeny gold, reminds me a lot of a lighter version of Amber Green... it certainly isn't a bright lime colour like you'd think.
Parrot - God I love this one! I darn't use it with my pasty grey Winter skin though, I need a tan! A really rich, bright green.
Moondance - A lovely dark bright blue colour.
Lagoon - I adore this colour, I just don't think I could wear it! Very bright shimmery light blue.
Bluebell - Gorgeous silvery denim blue, it really does remind me of the colour of bluebells.
Vintage Violet - A lovely mid lilac with a slight blueish tint.
Bougainvillea - A brighter and slightly lighter lilac.
Tallulah Pink - Gorgeous pale pink with a light shimmer, looks great with golds and browns
Taffeta Blue - I love this colour.. a very dark blue, almost black, with a dark blue metallic undertone.
Moon River - Fantastic bright silver highlighter.

Then there are 5 pressed matte powder eyeshadows:
Glacier - A very pale and cool light green/blue.
Stonewash - A great bluey grey slate colour.
Gothic Grape - A rich and dark grey purple.
Sledgehammer - Bright peacock bluey green.
Iron stone - A dark greyish brown.

Then we have 4 glitter gels, each lid has a small and thin liner brush attached for application:
Sweet Pea - A pale green glitter.
Silverdollar - Silver. Not much else to say on that!
Star Sapphire - Dark blue glitter.
Ingot - Gold!

Next the to glitter gels we have the infamous Shadowline. This is just water in an eyeliner bottle, but the beauty is that it means you can turn any of the eyeshadows into and eyeliner just by mixing the tip of the liner into your chosen eyeshadow.

Finally we have the applicator brush.

Onto the swatches:

The pigmentation is good.. not amazing but very good. The only ones I really wish were richer in pigmentation are Taffeta Blue, Burnt Toast, and maybe Amber Green too. However the good thing about that is they are fantastic for layering to get a deeper effect, or mixing with other shades. Some eyeshadows with high pigmentation, especially shimmers, can be so messy and hard to work with.
The 5 matte shadows are fantastic for building up a base for a look or just mixing with the shimmers to create something different. I absolutely love Stonewash and Gothic Grape. They are great for creating some really smokey looks with with a little colour.
L-R on the Shadowliner swatches is Amber Green, Black Ink, Lagoon, Moondance, Taffeta Blue, Moon River, Gothic Grape and Stonewash. Then five swatches L-R Iron Stone, Sledgehammer, Gothic Grape, Stonewash and Glacier.

The Shadowliner is just brilliant. Best and most simple invention ever. It makes the palette so incredibly versatile and you could easily create so many different looks. Imagine having eyeliner to match every eyeshadow.. it's brilliant!

Finally, the glitter gels.

L-R Ingot, Star Sapphire, Silver Dollar and Sweet Pea.

Meh. I'm just not a massive fan of glitter? This is two coats fo each gel, and they've tried to make them subtle but honestly, I'd prefer full on crazy glitters so I could recreate the glitter look on the front of the palette! I doubt I'll ever use these. Probably the only negative thing I can say about the entire palette really.

Sadly this palette is no longer available to buy.. the Fropnt Cover range was exclusive to Boots.
I bought this palette a couple of months ago, and I thought it was worth talking about.

Brand: Sleek
Name: iDivine
Colour: Storm
Cost: £4.99

What I liked: I loved the rich, jeweled colours. The pigmentation was also really rich, and each shadow blends on very smooth, and is very easy to blend and mix together. I didn't find any of the shades to be chalky or not enough. Each one goes on quite thick so you only need a tiny bit, I can see this lasting me a long time.
1 is a pale coppery gold with great shimmer. It works as a great undertone for greys, blacks, browns, golds, and greens.
2 is a very pale shimmery vanillaery gold. Great I think as a high lighter.
3 is a completely matte beige/biscuit type colour. A good natural colour, good base or undertone.
4 is a gorgeously rich gold which I love.. I wore it recently with black liquid eyeliner and red lips, it looked great.
5 is a beautiful pretty rose gold. I absolutely love this colour, it introduced me to wearing pinks with my eyemakeup. I love mixing it with browns for depth.
6 is a rich golden burgundy/magenta. Probably the colour I've used lease as I;m still learning with makeup and when I put it on it looks like I've received a hefty smack. I do like experimentally mixing it with greys and blacks though.
7 is a gorgeous rich copper brown. Such a classic colour, it mixes so well.
8, god I love this colour! A gorgeous metallic blue.. I've used this with Front Cover's Shadowline and used it as an eyeliner as well as a shadow and it's amazing. I love the richness of it.
9, again, another one I love! I adore rich emerald colours and love mixing this with browns, coppers and golds.
10, a richer, deeper version of 8... gorgeous.
11 a natural, matte essential deep brown. Excellent for natural looks, and creating deeper shadows for copper, gold, bronze and beige shades.
12 is a gorgeously thick, black smudgy coal colour. This is literally like touching burnt coal.. except it goes on so much smoother! I adore this colour, it;s so gloriously thick and dramatic. Only a tiny bit is needed for a deep effect and it layers really well. Great for a deep, smoky look.
What I disliked: Nothing?! For the price, these mineral eyeshadows have amazing pigmentation and go on so well. I can use every single colour and find other colours in the palette to mix them with as well as other eyeshadows I already have. This palette is perfect for taking away with you. I often taken it to work with me on our Friday Nights Out so that I can do my makeup quickly before we go. I suppose maybe the eyeshadow blender they gave with it was a bit crap?!
